About Perkins : History
In 1913 when "Brownie" Perkins started the business using horses and wagons, he specialized in the local delivery of new furniture from stores to homes. In 1924 he bought his first motor trucks and the horses were soon displaced in the business.

In 1924, when motor trucks were being used, Mr. Perkins changed the name to "F. R. Perkins Trucking Company".
In 1954, B. Edward Luglan purchased the company, incorporated and changed the name to "Perkins Trucking, Inc."
In 1963 the name was changed to "Perkins Furniture Transport, Inc." reflecting that most of the cargo was furniture.
In 1991 James H. and Barbara A. Card purchased the company. In 1997 the name was changed to "Perkins Specialized Transportation, Inc." reflecting the changing nature of the business: an air-ride transportation company providing expert, damage-free, time sensitive delivery of uncartoned and cartoned shipments to any point in the United States.
In January of 1996, Andy Card, oldest son of Jim and Barbara joined the company and shortly thereafter assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer. In 1997, Andy began the process of purchasing the company from his parents. In 2003, Andy became President & CEO.
In the early years, Perkins' offices and stables were on the south side of Indianapolis in the 400 block of Illinois, Street. In 1927 Brownie built a 9,000 square foot building at 419 W. Merrill Street for use as a garage and office. Perkins' home remained there until 1966 when it was necessary to lease an office at 1202 N. Pennsylvania St. In 1971 Ed Luglan purchased property at 5034 Lafayette Road and built an office and warehouse . In 1999, Perkins moved to its current location, a modern facility located at 5502 W. 73rd St. in the Park 100 Industrial Complex. Perkins also has a terminal and garage in Huntingburg, IN. This facility provides service to Perkins' trailers and the independent contractor trucks.
In December 2004, Andy Card, son of Barbara and Jim Card, assumed ownership of the company.
2007 -- Groundbreaking, constuction and move-in to our new state-of-the-art facility in Nobleville Indiana -- all in the course of less than a year!
